Overview: The Wall and Floor Tiler is responsible for the installation, repair and maintenance of wall and floor coverings using ceramic, porcelain, mosaic, and natural stone materials. The role requires a high level of craftsmanship, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to interpret plans and specifications to deliver high-quality finishes.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The duties of this role include, but are not limited to:
• Examining and interpreting plans, drawings, and specifications to determine tiling layout requirements and quantities of materials
• Preparing surfaces by removing existing material, cleaning, levelling, grinding, and waterproofing as required
• Cutting tiles to size and shape using hand tools, tile cutters, and electrical tile-cutting machines
• Laying and fixing tiles using appropriate adhesives, grout, sealants, and spacing techniques to ensure accurate alignment and finish
• Selecting, measuring, and marking surfaces to be covered
• Applying waterproofing membranes in accordance with building regulations and industry standards
• Mixing, applying, and removing adhesives, mortars, and grout • Ensuring joints are clean, sealed, and protected from water ingress • Polishing and cleaning completed tiled surfaces, removing excess grout and residue
• Identifying and repairing damaged or loose tiles and finishes 1 • Complying with all Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements, including the correct use of PPE and safe operation of machinery
• Advising clients and supervisors on material options and installation techniques where required
• Ensuring tools, equipment, and workspaces are maintained in clean and safe condition
• Completing tasks within project timelines and to company quality standards Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required
• Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling or equivalent qualification / on-the-job experience assessed as equivalent.
• Strong understanding of tiling materials, adhesives and waterproofing systems
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and site plans
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good physical fitness and manual handling capability
• Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship
• Commitment to workplace safety and company procedures
• Current White Card or willingness to obtain before commencement
• Current driver's licence preferred
